At Different Strokes Swimming our Learn to Swim (LTS) classes have been specifically designed for beginner swimmers and adults who want to embrace that quintessential part of Australian life and feel more confident whether they’re in the pool or the ocean.
We understand that learning to swim for the first time can be daunting, particularly the older you get. That’s why in all our LTS classes we make sure that one of our friendly and qualified instructors is always in the pool with you. To ensure you get the attention your skill level requires, we keep our classes small (5 people or less). Our focussed, tailored approach will ensure the fast development of your water confidence and swimming technique.
Our LTS classes also cater to entry-level swimmers who may have done a little swimming in the past, but struggle to swim further than 10 metres or so. In this instance, we can tailor a program that best suits your current level of performance.
If you’re a confident swimmer, but you’d like to fine-tune your swimming technique, then our stroke correction program is a great way to improve your proficiency in the water.
These intensive classes, which may have up to 7 participants, are designed for regular recreational swimmers who want to swim more efficiently, as well as those wishing to join squads, have aspirations to swim competitively, or even start ocean swimming.
We have found that many of our past clients have had a lengthy layoff from the pool, maybe through injury or other circumstances, and are now keen to correct deficiencies in their swimming style.
We also offer private coaching
If you prefer not to be taught in a group environment, then we also offer the option of one on one coaching with a qualified coach. During these sessions we will look to tailor a program that is best suited to your goals and experience.

Since we started we’ve helped dozens of adults who either wanted to learn how to swim, or improve their stroke in the water. Here’s why they chose to work with us:
Classes designed just for adults
Unlike most other swim schools who accept all comers, we cater exclusively to adults.
Effective in and out of pool learning
Our instructors deliver classes both in and out of the water, in an easy to learn manner, using a combination of assessment tools, drills and equipment.
A focus on water confidence
Our aim is to ensure you leave each class feeling positive and confident, with improved techniques to practice until the next lesson.
Smaller, more intimate groups
Ensuring that all participants receive the best individual attention. If you prefer not to be taught in a group environment, we also provide private lessons.
Industry experienced instructors
Our qualified instructors are all seasoned pros that bring with them with many years of experience teaching both beginners and experienced swimmers. They all swim and are passionate about the water with a couple having been serious competitive swimmers in Italy and the US'.
Convenient and flexible class times
Our class times (lunchtimes, evenings and weekends) and class lengths are purposely geared towards working people.
Different Strokes was started by Kari Baynes who only learnt to swim freestyle about five years ago, at the tender age of 48. It was Kari’s positive experience of learning to swim that drove her to start the business. And since then it’s been her vision to help adults just like her - no matter what age or skill level - to find their happy place in the water.
Kari firmly believes that by using the correct techniques in the pool, your confidence builds, your performance improves and your enjoyment increases.
